World’s First Surviving Set of Septuplets

Septuplets were born to Bobbi and Kenny McCaughey in Des Moines, lowa

DES MOINES, LOWA- A couple from the U.S did not have any children because of some internal issues. After many years of marriage, a miracle happened, and they were blessed with a baby girl. After one baby, when they tried for another baby, they received septuplets instead.

This story is about miracles and what true love means, even in the most challenging times.

Bobbi and Kenny McCaughey happily married and decided to have a family. But when they married, Bobbi was a Hypopituitarism patient (malfunctioning of the pituitary gland). As a result, the wife experienced fertility issues. After years of marriage, in 1996, they were honored with a baby girl, they named her Mikayla Marie.

Some years after the birth of Mikayla, they planned for another child. A doctor advised them that they should try a fertility treatment. He urged them to use ’’Metrodin’’, a medication that helps a woman to get pregnant.

The couple did not have any idea about fertility treatment. At that point, Bobbi and her husband went to their doctor for the regular scan. When they received the results of the scan, it knocked their socks entirely off. The doctor informed them that they would not have just ONE child, but they are having SEVEN!!!!! Septuplets were a new word for the McCaugheys.

The news made them too excited. One specialist explained to them that it could be dangerous for both Bobbi and babies. And he disclosed to the couple that they should look at the possibility of “selective reduction,” which kills some embryos to save others.

It was such a difficult decision with countless emotions for both Bobbi and Kenny McCaughey. Despite all the dangers, they took the risk and decided to keep all SEVEN babies. They were going to have septuplets.

They know it was not easy for them, but they were happy with their decision. But the couple was criticized by numerous people as it wasn’t their choice to decide to keep all children. But the couple fought on and moved on as they were very sure to keep all seven.

When this news spread around their community, the neighborhood also was very surprised as no one of them had ever found out about someone giving birth to seven children. And they understood that the McCaugheys would need help, so they started offering support and donated them unlimited diapers, free baby sitters, and even a van that fit the entire family. They also got a supply of groceries for one whole year.

A few days before this colossal birth, they were thrilled and nervous as they never experienced such an irregular birth. On November 19th, 1997, unexpectedly, Bobbi was hurried towards the hospital. There were still nine weeks in the due date, but septuplets were ready to come into this world.

Certainly, bobby had to go through a Cesarean, and all babies were born within 6 minutes of each other.

There were 4 baby girls and 3 boys that made the family from 3 to 10! Incredible thing was that all seven babies survived.

Just a few days after the birth of septuplets, there was a scramble among journalists as it is was going to be a remarkable story.
