As the name suggests, no-dig raised bed vegetable garden is a type of garden that is created above the ground level without any digging. This concept was introduced in the 1970s to minimize the gardening process and more fertile results than in-ground gardening. 

The garden area is generally raised from the ground level with different layers of organic materials. As the soil is custom mixed with elements added to create much more fertile soil, it is the best option for vegetable planting.

Benefits of No-dig Raised Bed Vegetable Garden

Aside from the fact that these types of gardens are very fertile, it has become very popular due to many other reasons as well. Some of them are:

  1. You don't need a special backyard or piece of land for a no-dig garden as you can make it anywhere, even over concrete.
  2. It solves your problem of inhospitable soil.
  3. These gardens retain moisture very well because of their structure and custom-built soil.
  4. No dig Gardens are extremely easy and quick to make with maximum production.

Why is a No-dig Raised Bed Garden the best option?

Fertile soil is one of the main advantages of a no-dig garden but, how does it get so fertile? The answer is that it uses many organic materials which make it more fertile than the regular soil. These materials are:

  1. Newspaper: You might always read bad news in a newspaper but now it's time to use it for a positive purpose. You can lay it on the soil as it is biodegradable and it prevents weeds to grow. It acts as a barrier and prevents weeds to have oxygen. 
  2. Compost: Compost is a necessary component even if it is regular gardening, in this case, it is much more effective.
  3. Manure: Manure is really important in terms of the fertility of the soil, you can use horse, chicken, cow, or sheep manure as well. 
  4. Organic Material: High carbon organic material such as straw, leaves, etc. are usually very helpful in making the soil fertile. 

Conclusion

No-Dig Gardens produce the best quality vegetables as they are made from natural organic materials. A vast majority of gardeners have shifted from traditional gardening to no-dig raised bed gardens due to its multiple benefits. Anyone can make a no-dig garden as it is very easy to make with promising results.
